Laser Quest scores another electronic HIT!

May 14, 2008—Approximately 70 students from the Scholastic Crime Solvers clubs in Chesterfield County and Colonial Heights gathered at Laser Quest, located on Research Road in Midlothian, to celebrate the end of another successful year of school-wide promotions. Donning vests and electronic rifles with laser sensors, students maneuvered around a huge warehouse of walls, mirrors and ramps in order to electronically "tag" their fellow students. Thirty students competed during each match, and at the end, all compared score cards to determine who shot who, how many times, and how they placed among their peers. As the students completed their first 30-minute match, they were treated to pizza and refreshments, all served by Crime Solvers Board members and law-enforcement coordinators. As the event was nearing its end, Laser Quest staff conducted a random drawing of scorecards, and 50 students had the privilege of playing a second 30-minute match. Stay tuned to this Web page for more updates and photos. Our thanks go to the staff of Laser Quest and, ultimately, to the students involved in the 2007-08 school year Scholastic Crime Solvers Clubs!

Crime Solvers Scholastic Program

The Crime Solvers Scholastic Program in Chesterfield County is designed to get our youth involved in civil service and community responsibility.  Crime Solvers has a club in every middle school and in some of the high schools in Chesterfield County.

The club’s main objective is to promote Crime Solvers in their school by word of mouth and advertisement.  Each school has a faculty adviser, a Crime Solvers board member, and a police detective.  The clubs determine how much of a reward to give students who call Crime Solvers with the help of a predetermined formula. Club members make posters, have pizza parties, listen to guest speakers, and enjoy presentations from forensic technicians (CSIs) and K-9 officers during their monthly meetings.  The student members do not investigate crimes or take Crime Solvers tips.

If your school does not have a Crime Solvers club and you are interested in starting one please contact Detective Jacquie Conner at 748-1278 or e-mail at scholastic@crimesolvers.net

Feb. 27, 2008: Cosby High School club
member Amanda Taylor showed intense
concentration as she dusted for latent
fingerprints from a drink can during a
forensic demonstration.
In case you are curious...she DID pull a usable print!

On Thursday, Jan. 10, 2008,  Officer Scott Gordon introduced the
Scholastic Crime Solvers Club of Bailey Bridge Middle School to
one of Chesterfield County Police Department's newest K-9
graduates, Samantha. Samantha proudly demonstrated her
drug-detection abilities during their regular monthly meeting
.

Officer Rick Davis, School Resource Officer, demonstrated "Fatal Vision" goggles to students at Bailey Bridge Middle School on Thursday, Feb. 14. As part of this new scholastic club activity, students are given the opportunity to ride a "Green Machine" through a cone course while wearing goggles designed to simulate intoxication. No tickets were issued, but the Green Machine (and the traffic cones) did suffer minor damage during the event. A good time was had by all.

Mr. Jim Bonner, Faculty Advisor for the scholastic club of Manchester Middle School, made an effort at the same ride on Tuesday, Jan. 8. And don't worry...the student behind Mr. Bonner WAS NOT run over during the exercise.
