Francis L. Calfee

Crime Solvers Volunteer

Francis L. Calfee is a native of Radford, Virginia.  He received his early education in the elementary schools of Radford, Virginia, and his secondary  education from Christiansburg Institute, in Christiansburg, Virginia, graduating in 1947.
 
After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army receiving training with the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.  He heroically served in the Korean War.  He received an honorable discharge in 1954 after receiving many decorations and awards and decided to further his education.
 
He enrolled at Virginia State College (now Virginia State University) and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Health and Physical Education in 1959, and a Master of Science Degree in Guidance and Counseling in 1962.  He did further study at The University of California at Davis, California, and St. Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri.
 
Upon receiving his Bachelor of Science Degree, he was employed by Virginia State University, beginning as a bookstore clerk.  During his years at  Virginia State University, he held the following other positions:  Manager of the Bookstore, Residence Hall Counselor, Program Coordinator, Director of Housing, Acting Vice President of Student Affairs, Assistant to the Vice President for Student Affairs, Director of Housing and Residence Life and Dean of Men.  While employed there he gave presentations at workshops, conferences and seminars organized on local, state, national and international levels.  He retired in 1991 with 32 years of outstanding service and was appropriately honored and recognized by the University.
 
He has received certificates of recognition and appreciation for outstanding service from President of the United States Gerald Ford; President of the United States Richard Nixon; Eunice Kennedy Shriver and Edward M. Kennedy/Special Olympics, Inc.; VSU Vice President of Student Affairs; Department of the Army VSU ROTC; Association of College and University Housing Officers, International; Petersburg Manpower and many others.
 
He also received outstanding contribution and service awards from Fayetteville State University of Fayetteville, North Carolina; VSU Music Department; Chesterfield County/Colonial Heights Crime Solvers; VSU Residence Life/Student Affairs Division; induction into the Virginia State University Athletic Hall of Fame; Proclamation from Mayor, City of Colonial Heights, Virginia  Crime Solvers Program and others.
 
His organizational memberships include Benedict Civic Club, Inc., VSU Greater Petersburg Alumni Association, Phi Beta Sigma Frternity, Inc., Chesterfield County/Colonial Heights Crime Solvers Board Member, and others.  He has been a member of the CC/CH Crime Solvers Board since it began in 1984.  He has served as third vice president.  He has been an advisor and presenter at Matoaca High School and made presentations for other high schools for CC/CH Crime Solvers.  He also developed the orientation program for new members of CC/CH Crime Solvers.
 
Calfee is married to the former Dawn Fox and they have one son, Kevin,  who resides with his wife, Janice, in Houston, Texas.

Francis Calfee was awarded the 2005 Hulon Willis Award for his many years of outstanding service to Crime Solvers.
